Shine FAQs

Yes, generally, Reformer Pilates is safe during pregnancy, especially when modified for the pregnant body. The workout can be adjusted to accommodate the changing body and can help to strengthen the core, improve balance and flexibility, and prepare the body for labor.

Prenatal Reformer Pilates can provide numerous benefits, including improved posture, reduced back and pelvic pain, improved balance and stability, enhanced functional strength, and preparation for childbirth by strengthening the pelvic floor muscles.

As a rule of thumb, avoid exercises that put pressure on your belly or involve lying flat on your back after the first trimester. Your Pilates instructor should be able to modify exercises for you.

The timeframe can vary based on individual recovery, the type of birth (vaginal or C-section), and the advice of your healthcare provider. Generally, women can return to Reformer Pilates 6-8 weeks postpartum, or longer after a C-section, and only after they’ve received clearance from their healthcare provider.

Postnatal Reformer Pilates can help restore core strength, improve posture, alleviate back pain, and aid overall recovery. It can also help to manage stress and promote overall wellness.

In the initial postpartum period, it’s important to avoid strenuous exercises that put pressure on the pelvic floor and abdominal muscles, like intense core work or jumping exercises. Again, a qualified instructor should be able to guide you through safe and effective workouts for your postnatal body.
