Reformer Pilates combines the core-strengthening and posture-enhancing principles of pilates with the use of a specialised piece of equipment known as a Reformer.

The Reformer provides resistance and support during pilates exercises, allowing participants to engage their muscles more effectively and efficiently. This resistance also helps to build strength and tone the muscles, while the aid provided by the Reformer can improve flexibility and range of motion.

Our Classic Reformer Pilates classes are led by trained instructors who guide participants through a series of exercises, making it a fun and engaging workout experience suitable for all fitness levels.

Shine FAQs

Reformer Pilates is a form of exercise that is performed on a piece of equipment called a ‘reformer’. Developed by Joseph Pilates in the 20th century, it focuses on improving flexibility, strength, balance, and overall body awareness. The reformer has a sliding carriage rigged with springs for resistance, and several attachments for adjusting the machine for different exercises and levels of difficulty.

Reformer Pilates offers several health benefits, including improved flexibility, muscle strength and tone, balanced muscular strength on both sides of your body, enhanced muscular control of your back and limbs, improved stabilisation of your spine, improved posture, rehabilitation or prevention of injuries related to muscle imbalances, increased lung capacity and circulation through deep breathing, improved concentration, increased body awareness, stress management and relaxation.

Mat Pilates and Reformer Pilates are based on the same principles, but the main difference lies in the equipment used. Mat Pilates is performed on a mat, using your own body weight and sometimes small pieces of equipment. Reformer Pilates is performed on a reformer machine, which adds resistance to the movements via the use of the springs which can be adjusted to different tension levels. This allows for more varied workouts and can target muscles more directly.

Reformer Pilates is suitable for people of all fitness levels. Beginners can benefit as it helps establish proper form and alignment, and the adjustable resistance of the reformer makes it adaptable to many levels of fitness. More advanced practitioners can increase the challenge by adjusting the machine’s settings. However, as with any exercise regimen, it’s always a good idea to consult with a healthcare provider before starting, especially for individuals with specific health conditions.
