Frequently Asked Questions at Shine Pilates.

Pilates offers a wide range of benefits including improved core strength, flexibility, posture, and overall body awareness. It’s also known to support joint mobility, enhance muscular control, and reduce stress levels. Regular practice can help you move more efficiently, feel more energised, and support long-term physical wellbeing.

Both Pilates and yoga promote strength, flexibility, and mindfulness, but they differ in focus. Pilates emphasizes controlled movements that target the core and stabilising muscles, often using equipment like the reformer. Yoga often integrates more stretching, breathwork, and meditation, with a spiritual or philosophical element. Many people enjoy doing both for a well-rounded practice.

Pilates is suitable for all fitness levels — including beginners. Our instructors guide you through each movement with a focus on form, safety, and gradual progression. Whether you’re brand new or returning after time away, you’ll feel supported every step of the way.

Pilates supports weight management by building lean muscle, improving posture, and increasing body awareness. While it may not burn as many calories as high-intensity workouts, it’s a valuable tool when combined with a healthy lifestyle — helping you tone your body and feel stronger from the inside out.

Everyone is different, but with consistent practice 2–3 times per week, many people start noticing improvements in core strength, flexibility, and posture within 3–4 weeks. The real power of Pilates comes from consistency over time — it’s a form of movement that supports long-term health and resilience.

We recommend speaking with your healthcare provider first, and letting your instructor know so they can tailor your session for each stage of pregnancy.

Reformer Pilates involves a spring-based machine that adds resistance and support, allowing for more variety, progression, and precise muscle targeting. Both are effective — it just depends on your goals and preferences!
